Somebody Else's Finding

Somebody had an opinion about you and you filed it as a fact.

Not consciously. What happened is that it was said at a time when you had no defense against it, by somebody whose view of you mattered, and it went in and it settled, and over the years the memory of the person faded while the finding stayed.

That is the strange part. You would have to work now to remember the exact circumstances. But the conclusion is right there, immediately available, and it has the texture of something established rather than something somebody said.

That is what a finding is. It is an opinion that has stopped feeling like one.

Let me put the plain thing first. You have not been careless with this. You have carried it for years without complaining about it to anybody, and you have gone at the thing itself again and again and gotten up every time. Somebody who did not care would have forgotten the sentence.

So this page is not going to tell you to forgive them, and it is not going to tell you to confront them. Either might be right one day and neither is today's business.

I want to check the filing. Because a finding has to be entered by somebody with authority, and I do not think this one was.

An opinion needs jurisdiction

Consider what has to be true for something to be a finding rather than a remark.

Somebody with authority has to make it, in a proceeding, with the matter properly before them. Every one of those conditions matters, and none of them was met. What happened was that a person with no jurisdiction over your worth said something in a hallway or a kitchen or a car, on a day when they were tired or angry or simply careless.

That is a remark. It has been operating as a judgment for years without ever having been one.

You have been operating under a remark, and no person in your life has ever once had jurisdiction over what you are worth. Isaiah 54:17 says every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes an ancient promise about tongues apply to one sentence in one kitchen.

And notice what time has done to it. Years of carrying something makes it feel established, because familiarity and authority feel identical from the inside. The oldest thought in a man's head is the one he questions least.

You have been trusting age rather than authority, and no sentence has ever once become true by being carried a long time. The written word says no weapon formed against thee shall prosper and every tongue in judgment shall be condemned, and the Spirit of God is the one who makes an old thing lose its standing rather than merely its volume.

Every tongue that rises

Isaiah writes a promise that names the exact mechanism.

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD. (Isaiah 54:17, King James Version)

Every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment. That is a sentence about speech acting as a verdict, which is precisely what happened to you.

And the promise is not that nobody will say anything. Tongues rise. The promise is about what happens to the judgment afterward, and the verb given to you is condemn, which is a legal word. You are told to rule against it.

You have standing to rule against it, and no rising tongue has ever once carried a judgment that had to stand. Isaiah 54 gives the servant the authority to condemn the judgment rather than to endure it, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes that authority usable by an ordinary man in an ordinary week.

And read the last line. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD. It is inheritance language. It is not something you achieve by being strong enough. It came with the family.

You were handed this as an inheritance, and no strength of yours has ever once been what made it available. The Spirit of God is the one who makes an inheritance feel like a possession rather than a promise, and the written word says this is the heritage of the servants of the LORD.

Name the person, then release it

Now the part I came to say, and it needs to be done in two movements rather than one.

First name the person. Out loud, plainly, with no editorializing. It was my father. It was a coach. It was a woman I worked for. Naming it converts a finding back into a remark, because a finding has no author and a remark has one.

Then release it. Not forgive them, which may take years and is a different subject. Release the sentence, which is today's work and can be done in one breath.

You are able to name an author and release a sentence in the same minute, and neither has ever once required the other person to be present. The written word gives you the verb condemn regarding the judgment, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes two movements like that actually take.

And here is why the naming has to come first. As long as the finding has no author, it is simply the truth about you. The moment it has an author, it is one tired person's remark in one particular kitchen, and a remark can be set down.

You have been carrying something with an author, and no remark has ever once been the same thing as a verdict. The Spirit of God is the one who restores an author to a sentence that had lost one, and Isaiah 54:17 is the written word underneath it, where the tongue rises and the servant is the one who rules against it.
