Down on the Floor With Them

This message is for the reader who wants to be able to get down on the floor with a grandchild and has been told for years to want something else instead

What you actually want is to get down on the floor.

Not a number. Not a look. Not anything anybody has ever tried to sell you. You want to be able to get down on the floor with a small child and get back up again without it being an event, and you want that to still be true in the years that are coming.

Nobody has ever offered you that. Every single thing offered to you has been about appearance or about quantity, and you have accepted the frame every time because it was the only frame available, and then you have failed inside it repeatedly, and the whole time the thing you actually wanted was sitting there unnamed.

Let me put the plain thing first. You have not been careless with any of this. You have gone at every frame anybody handed you, for years, and you have gotten up after every one. Somebody who did not care would not have tried the frames.

So this page is not going to hand you another frame. There is no plan on this site and there is not going to be one.

I want to show you a verse about the late years, and it is not about appearance at all.

The frame was always wrong

Consider why nothing has worked, because it is worth knowing that it was not you.

Every offer you accepted was aimed at a target you did not actually want. So even when a frame worked for a while, it produced something nobody was after, and a result nobody wanted cannot sustain anything. There is no motivation available for a goal that is not yours.

That is not a failure of will. That is an accurate response to a misdirected effort, and it has been misread as weakness for your whole adult life.

You have been aiming at somebody else's target, and no motivation has ever once been available for a goal that was not yours. Psalm 92:14 says they shall still bring forth fruit in old age, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes a verse about the late years land on a man who has only ever been sold the near ones.

And notice what the real want has in it that the frames never did. It is about somebody else. Getting down on the floor is not about you at all, it is about a child, and that is why it has survived decades of neglect without dying.

You have a want with a person in it, and no target has ever once outlasted a want like that. The written word puts fruitfulness in old age rather than appearance at any age, and the Spirit of God is the one who makes a long view usable by a man in the present tense.

Fruit in old age

The psalm is about trees and about the long run.

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing. (Psalm 92:14, King James Version)

Fruit in old age. That is a claim about capacity in the late years, and about capacity for something that comes out rather than something that shows.

Fruit is what a tree produces for somebody else to eat. Nobody grows fruit for the tree.

You are made to bring something forth for other people, and no fruit has ever once been grown for the sake of the tree. Psalm 92 names productivity in the late years and points it outward, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes that specific to a man who wants to be able to lift a grandchild.

And read where the psalm puts it. Still. They shall still bring forth. The word acknowledges that a reader would not expect it, and it says it anyway about the exact stage where everybody assumes the account closes.

You are still bringing something forth, and no stage of life has ever once been the one where the account closes. The Spirit of God is the one who makes still mean still to a man who has been quietly writing off the coming years, and the written word says they shall still bring forth fruit in old age.

Get down on the floor today

Now the part I came to say, and it is the thing you actually wanted.

Get down on the floor with somebody today. A grandchild if there is one available, a dog, a nephew, a neighbor's child with their parent right there.

Do it once. Get back up whenever you want to. There is no duration in this and there is nothing to keep up.

You are able to do the thing you actually wanted today, and no version of it has ever once had to be earned first. The written word says they shall still bring forth fruit in old age, which is capacity aimed outward, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes today's version of a long want available now.

And here is why doing it once matters more than any plan. A want that has never been acted on stays theoretical, and theoretical wants are easy to trade for somebody else's target. A want that has been acted on once, even badly, has a fact behind it, and facts are much harder to trade.

You have a fact behind it now, and no theoretical want has ever once been able to hold its ground against a plan. The Spirit of God is the one who converts a long want into an ordinary afternoon, and Psalm 92:14 is the written word underneath it, where the fruit is still coming and the years being described are the late ones.

The breakthrough

So here is what I believe is going out over a man reading this.

You are still bringing something forth, and no stage of life has once been the one where the account closes. I am not decorating that. Psalm 92:14 says they shall still bring forth fruit in old age, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my telling who takes a line like that off a page and puts it on a blanket in a back yard.

And then this, which is the word I came with.

You have a want with a person in it, and no target aimed at you has ever once outlasted a want like that. The Spirit of God is the one who makes an outward capacity feel like the point rather than a consolation, and the passage is the written word underneath it, where the fruit is still coming in the late years and fruit is grown for somebody else to eat.

You do not have to want anything else today. That was never the assignment. Get down on the floor.

Declare this over yourself

  1. Target somebody else set for me, you are not what I want. Psalm 92:14 says they shall still bring forth fruit in old age, so by the Holy Spirit you aim nothing in this house, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Embarrassment about wanting something small, you have no standing. The word says they shall still bring forth, and by the Spirit of God I am done trading a real want for a frame that was handed to me.
  3. Father, I am still bearing fruit in the late years and this is what I actually want. Your word says they shall still bring forth fruit in old age, so by Your Spirit I get down on the floor today, and then I get up and sit in a chair.

Why we ask you to say these out loud
