It Was the Room That Kept It

It was not the sentence. It was the witnesses.

You have worked that out over the years and it has not helped, because knowing the mechanism does not stop the mechanism. If the same words had been said to you alone in a hallway you would have handled it. What you cannot get past is that other people heard it, and that for one second there was a room full of people who all had the same thought about you at the same time.

And you can name them. That is the part nobody would guess. You can list who was standing there, all these years later, in order.

That is not a memory of a sentence. That is a memory of a room.

Let me put the plain thing first. You have not been careless with any of this. You have gone at the thing itself for years and gotten up after every attempt, and you have kept walking into rooms, which takes more than anybody who has never carried this understands. Somebody who did not care would not remember who was standing there.

So this page will not tell you that nobody remembers it. They probably do not, and that has never once helped you and it will not now.

I want to talk about what a room actually has the power to do, and there is a verse about the reproach of men.

What an audience adds

Consider precisely what the presence of other people added to those words.

It did not make them truer. It did not give them any additional information. What it added was ratification. When a sentence is said in front of people and nobody objects, the silence of the room reads as agreement, and a man in that position receives a verdict signed by everybody present.

Nobody signed anything. But that is not how it felt and it is not how it has been stored.

You have been living under a signature nobody gave, and no silence in any room has ever once been the same thing as agreement. Isaiah 51:7 says fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes an instruction like that possible rather than merely admirable.

And notice what the room has done since. Nothing. It has done absolutely nothing for years. Every person in it went home and got on with their lives, and the ratification you have been carrying has had no maintenance from any of them whatsoever.

You have been maintaining a verdict single-handedly, and no room has ever once done a day's work to keep one alive. The written word says fear not the reproach of men, treating the reproach as a thing that can be set aside, and the Spirit of God is the one who makes setting it aside an available action.

Fear ye not the reproach of men

Isaiah says it to people who are being talked about, and he is specific about the mechanism.

Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings. (Isaiah 51:7, King James Version)

Reproach and revilings. Both of those are public words. Reproach is disgrace in front of others, and reviling is being spoken against out loud. This is not a verse about private criticism. It is a verse about audiences.

You are addressed directly in a verse about audiences, and no public reproach has ever once been given standing over a man who knows righteousness. Isaiah 51 names the public nature of it and then says fear it not, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes a command about fear something a man can obey rather than admire.

And read the verse before it and the one after, because Isaiah gives the reason. He says the moth shall eat them like a garment, and my righteousness shall be for ever. The room is temporary. The ruling is not.

You have a room that is temporary and a righteousness that is not, and no gathering of people has ever once outlasted what God has said. The Spirit of God is the one who makes durability a felt thing rather than a doctrine, and the written word says my righteousness shall be for ever.

Name the room and dismiss it

Now the part I came to say, and it is one action with two halves.

Name them. Out loud. Who was standing there. You already have the list and it has been on file for years, and saying it out loud does something that thinking it does not.

Then dismiss the room. Not the people, who are mostly fine and mostly gone. The room, as a court, which is what it has been functioning as.

You have the authority to dismiss a room that was never a court, and no gathering has ever once held a session about you. The written word says fear ye not the reproach of men, which treats the whole apparatus as dismissible, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes a dismissal effective rather than symbolic.

And here is why naming them first matters. As long as the room is a blur, it is everybody, which is to say it is the world. Named, it becomes four or five people who were in a particular place on a particular afternoon, and four or five people are not the world.

You are dealing with four or five people rather than the world, and no afternoon has ever once contained everybody. The Spirit of God is the one who shrinks a room back to its actual size, and Isaiah 51:7 is the written word underneath it, where the reproach of men is named as a public thing and told to be feared no longer.
