A Down Payment on Tomorrow

You had a good day recently and you spent it on tomorrow.

Here is how it works, and you will recognize it immediately. A day goes well. The work went right, you felt like yourself, something landed. And within about an hour of noticing, the day has been converted into a plan.

If today went like that, then tomorrow could go like that. And then so could the day after. And by the end of the evening you have built a structure out of one good day, and the structure has requirements, and the requirements start tomorrow.

So the good day is gone. It was not lived. It was cashed in.

Let me put the plain thing first. You have not been careless with any of this. Every one of those structures was built in earnest and you have got up and gone at the next one every time. Somebody who did not care would have let the good day be a good day.

So this page is not going to tell you to stop planning. That is a personality instruction and it will not hold.

I want to show you a piece of law about food in a desert, and what happened to the ones who stored it.

A day cashed in is a day not lived

Consider what the conversion does, because it is not neutral and it is not free.

The good day becomes evidence. Evidence that it is possible, which means evidence that it is available, which means, by tomorrow evening, evidence of what you failed to repeat. The good day has been turned into the first term of a sequence, and the second term arrives with an obligation.

So one good day produces one lived hour and then a debt.

You have been converting good days into debts, and no day has ever once been able to be both lived and cashed in. Exodus 16:19 says let no man leave of it till the morning, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes a piece of desert law arrive on a man who has been storing good days all his life.

And notice that the plan never survives. Not once, in all these years, has the structure built on a good day lasted past the second day. Which means the conversion has never even paid out, and you have gone on doing it anyway, which is the part worth stopping at.

You have been making a trade that has never once paid, and no structure built on a single good day has ever once survived the week. The written word says let no man leave of it till the morning, which is a prohibition on storing rather than on having, and the Spirit of God is the one who makes a prohibition feel like a protection.

Let no man leave of it

The instruction about the manna is very short and the reason is in what follows.

And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank. (Exodus 16:19-20, King James Version)

Let no man leave of it till the morning. And the ones who did found it spoiled.

That is not God being strict about food storage. It is a statement about the nature of the provision: it was made for a day, it works within a day, and it does not survive being kept for a purpose beyond the day it was given for.

You have provision made for a day, and no day's supply has ever once survived being kept for another one. Exodus 16 has the storing itself produce the spoiling, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes an old desert rule apply to a good Tuesday.

And read what they got the next morning. More. There was more the next day, every day, for forty years. The prohibition on storing was never a scarcity measure. It was possible precisely because tomorrow had its own.

You have tomorrow already provided for, and no storing of today has ever once been what made tomorrow work. The Spirit of God is the one who makes tomorrow's supply believable enough to leave today's alone, and the written word says let no man leave of it till the morning.

Let the good day be spent on today

Now the part I came to say.

When the next good day comes, and one will, do not convert it. Let it be spent on the day it was given for.

That means noticing the conversion when it starts, which is usually about an hour in, and then doing nothing. Not making the plan. Not saying anything to anybody about what this could mean. Not looking at the calendar.

You are able to leave a good day unconverted, and no good day has ever once been improved by being turned into a structure. The written word says let no man leave of it till the morning, which is permission to use the whole of a day's provision on that day, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes an unconverted good day possible.

And here is what you get for it, since a man likes to know. You get the day. That is the whole return and it is larger than it sounds, because it is the thing you have not had in years, and because a lived day cannot be taken back tomorrow the way a cashed one always is.

You have a lived day to keep, and no lived day has ever once been able to be repossessed. The Spirit of God is the one who makes a day into something a man actually holds, and Exodus 16:19 is the written word underneath it, where the provision is for the day and the storing is what spoils it.
