It starts before your eyes are properly open.
Not a thought, exactly. More like a file being opened. Yesterday gets reviewed, in order, and the review is thorough, and by the time your feet are on the floor a verdict has been delivered and the day has its tone.
Nobody knows this happens. It takes about the length of a breath and it is completely silent and it has happened every morning for years.
And the strangest thing about it is that it is not even about important matters. It is small. What was said, how it landed, what got eaten, what did not get done. Small items, audited rigorously, before a man has stood up.
Let me put the plain thing first. You have not been careless with any of this. You have gone at every item on that list in your waking hours for years and got up the next morning to the same audit. Somebody who did not care would wake up and think about breakfast.
So this page is not going to tell you to think positively in the morning. That is another thing to do before your feet touch the floor and you already have one.
I want to tell you what is already in the room when the audit starts.
An audit before a man is standing
Consider when it happens, because the timing is the cruelty in it.
It happens before a man is awake enough to argue. A man at noon can push back on a thought. A man at six in the morning with his eyes half open has no defenses whatsoever, and the audit knows that, and it is why it runs then and not at any other hour.
So the most severe assessment of your life is delivered to the least defended version of you, daily, and it has never been contested once.
You have been audited at the hour you were least able to answer, and no assessment delivered like that has ever once been fair. Lamentations 3:22 says it is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes a sentence about mercy arrive before a man's feet reach the floor.
And notice what it never does. It never finds anything new. It has the same items most mornings, and it delivers the same verdict, and the man receiving it already knew every line of it before he went to sleep.
You have been receiving a report with nothing new in it, and no audit of yours has ever once found a single thing you did not know. The written word says his compassions fail not, which is a supply arriving rather than a report being filed, and the Spirit of God is the one who puts a delivery in the room where a report has been running alone.
His compassions fail not
Jeremiah writes it in the middle of the worst book in the Bible, and the timing in it is exact.
It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23, King James Version)
His compassions fail not. That is a statement about supply rather than about mood. It says the thing does not run out, which is a strange way to describe compassion unless somebody has been worried that it might.
And then the timing, which is the part for you. New every morning. Not new when you get up. Not new once you have got yourself together. New every morning, which means it is in the room before the audit opens.
You have compassion in the room before the audit opens, and no mercy of God's has ever once arrived after the review. Lamentations 3 puts the newness at the morning rather than at some later point in the day, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes an arrival time matter to a man lying in bed.
And read where it comes from. It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed. Not of a man's endurance. The reason the man in that book has not been finished off is named, and it is not anything he did.
You have not been consumed and it has never once been your endurance that prevented it. The Spirit of God is the one who reassigns the credit for a man's survival, and the written word says it is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed.
Feet on the floor first
Now the part I came to say, and the order is the whole instruction.
Put both feet on the floor before the audit finishes. That is the action. Not stopping the audit, which cannot be done, and not arguing with it, which takes more waking than is available.
Move first. Feet down, out of the bed, standing.
And then say out loud, standing up, that the compassion got there first.
You are able to stand up before the verdict lands, and no review has ever once been able to finish delivering to a man who is already on his feet. The written word says they are new every morning, which puts the supply earlier than the audit, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes the order of a morning something a man can change.
And here is why the order does the work rather than the content. You have tried to answer the audit with better content for years and it does not work, because the audit has all the material and you are half asleep. Changing the order does not require you to win an argument. It requires you to stand up.
You have a change available that does not require you to win anything, and no argument has ever once been needed by a man who simply got out of bed. The Spirit of God is the one who makes a physical act do what a mental one could not, and Lamentations 3:22 is the written word underneath it, where the compassions do not fail and the newness is dated to the morning.
So here is what I believe is going out over a man reading this.
You have compassion in the room before the audit opens, and no mercy of God's has once arrived after the review. I am not decorating that. Lamentations 3:22 says it is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my telling who takes a line like that off a page and puts it on the floor beside a bed.
And then this, which is the word I came with.
You have not been consumed and it has never once been your own endurance that prevented it. The Spirit of God is the one who reassigns the credit for a man's survival, and the passage is the written word underneath it, where the mercies are the reason and the compassions are the supply and both are dated to the morning.
You do not have to win the argument today. That was never the assignment. Get your feet on the floor.
Declare this over yourself
- Audit that runs before my eyes are open, you do not get the first word. Lamentations 3:22 says his compassions fail not, so by the Holy Spirit you set no tone in this house, in the name of Jesus.
- Verdict delivered to the least defended version of me, you were never fair and you are not final. The word says they are new every morning, and by the Spirit of God I am done receiving a report that has never once found anything new.
- Father, compassion was already there before I woke and Your mercies do not fail. Your word says it is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, so by Your Spirit I put my feet on the floor first today, and then I go and put the kettle on.
